The world’s most important conference for music technology is coming to the Netherlands. This year’s edition of New Interfaces for Musical Expression (NIME) will be held in Utrecht, from 2 to 6 September.
International musical inventors gather in Utrecht
Over 250 innovative musical inventors from all over the world are gathering in Utrecht to exchange knowledge, to experiment and to perform. NIME feels like a festival, spread across many well-known and remarkable locations in the city. The programme is also appealing for the general audience, and especially to the more adventurous music lover.

Varied programme of musical art

The musical conference NIME stands for New Interfaces for Musical Expression and offers a very diverse programme. Next to workshops and performances, there are keynote presentations of leading specialists in the professional field. Composer, performer and dj Andi Otto will give a speech, as wel as interdisciplinary artist and researcher Darscha Hewitt. Also present is the Utrecht producer, multi-instrumentalist and composer BINKBEATS (Frank Wienk). Wienk will give a keynote speech, and one of his installations is shown in the building of Pieter Baan Centrum: a former forensic psychiatric clinic.

First time in the Netherlands

The NIME conference is held annually and was formerly organised in, among other countries, China, the USA, New-Zealand and Mexico. This year’s edition is the first time ever in the Netherlands and is organised by HKU University of the Arts Utrecht, Gaudeamus and Sounds Like Touch. Multiple concerts and keynotes are also included in the programme of the Gaudeamus Festival 2024. These parts of the programme are therefore accessible for anyone with a Gaudeamus passe-partout or day ticket.
