Today is Diversity Day! Diversity and Inclusion are important to HKU, and today we want to pay special attention to this with the help of alumna Armani Salim. As a musical uniter or various cultural backgrounds, she shares her view on the definition of ‘diversity’: both within us and outside.
Alumna Conservatorium sheds her light on the meaning of ‘diversity'’
Armani Salim concluded her Vocals in Jazz & Pop studies at HKU Utrechts Conservatorium last year. With her graduation concert, she gave a unique expression of her Syrian, Armenian and Dutch cultural identity, while bringing together many students from diverse disciplines and cultural backgrounds.

We spoke her right before her performance in TivoliVredenburg for the Opening of the Academic year, in which she played fragments from her graduation concert.
*Feeling at home and welcome, being seen and heard from a basis of equality: that’s what we stand for at HKU. Inclusion is for everybody, regardless of gender, ethnic background, sexual orientation, functional impairments, age, or neurodivergence. We want to provide room to a new generation of creations and offer equal opportunities at HKU so everyone can become the creative professional they wish to be.
