HKU alumni in Reality Check expo at Museum MORE
Museum MORE is celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2025. And Reality Check is their birthday party: | 10 years MORE, 10 years of realism. In this exhibition, MORE is showing the latest realism artworks made in the Netherlands. The expo consists of over 50 contemporary artists; young and old; from acclaimed artists to fresh graduates, working in a very diverse range of media: painting, photography, video, installation, sculpturing, drawing and print graph. The main criterion: the work must be made in the Netherlands during the ten years of Museum MORE’s existence.

Realism lives!

Those who have been following the recent developments in the arts already know: realism is alive and well! More and more of today’s artists are choosing figuration as the medium for investigating reality. Because reality is what realism is of course all about. But what exactly is reality? Ever since the advent of realism as an art form, this has been the important question. And in our current times, it might be more relevant than ever. Because our time is typical for its huge amounts of images and information. Fact-checking is crucial. And Artificial Intelligence is showing us an artificial reality, while elsewhere we are also bombarded by loads of ‘alternative truths’, photoshopped images, and Instagram filters. The demand for authenticity has rarely been so high. Our time therefore calls or a reality check, and today’s realist artists are here to offer it.

HKU artists

About 50 artists are displaying their work in this exhibition, including HKU alumni Caja Boogers, Bobbi Essers, Lieven Hendriks, Onno Meeuwsen, Joyce Overheul, Anna Reerds, Robin Speijer and Sam Werkhoven.
