Miro Nuaki Nieuwenhuis bravely puts her life at the centre of her art. In paintings that enable her to transform memories and interpret certain life events in a healthy way. ‘I felt quite anxious to make art about these subjects without involving my family too much in my practice.’
Miro: This work has served its purpose for me
A sigh of relief. That’s how Miro describes what she gets from the decision to transform her very personal experiences into beauty on the canvas. By approaching these experiences through painting, the third-year Fine Art student is able to think about them in a different way. It offers her a new perspective for the conversations with her family, because she can first process the events on her own. ‘Whether I share my personal story with the audience as well, is something that I decide per occasion. When I feel that someone is genuinely interested, I’m willing to share it. And I keep getting better in sensing what is important to explain, and what not, for understanding the work.’
