About Theatre Technique Akademietheater

As an HKU Theatre student, you can use the Akademietheater auditoria. The auditoria are equipped with various technical facilities, so you can gain varied experience of theatre technique and everything it entails. You can work here autonomously and learn everything about stagecraft. You can also experiment with all the facilities and produce small-scale shows. The Akademietheater comprises two auditoria: the large auditorium (Grote Zaal) and the small auditorium (Kleine Zaal).

  • The large auditorium, Grote Zaal, is on the ground floor and suitable for performances with a maximum audience of 160. As an HKU student, you may use this auditorium for educational productions. With its many technical facilities, you can do plenty of learning and experimenting in the auditorium. In this auditorium all work is conducted under the supervision of a technician.

  • Here, students can work on their own after receiving a general instruction. This small auditorium, Kleine Zaal, is highly suitable for giving lectures, presentations and performances. It seats a maximum of 70 people. HKU Theatre students can experiment with technique and creating small performances.
