Veerle Spronck
Veerle Spronck (1993) studied Art History at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, following which she completed an interdisciplinary research Master’s degree in 'Cultures of Arts, Science and Technology' at Maastricht University. She graduated cum laude with an ethnographic study of the practice and methods of artistic research, for which she was awarded the LKCA Max van der Kamp Thesis Prize. Since 2017, she has been associated as a PhD researcher with the Maastricht Centre for the Innovation of Classical Music (MCICM) – a collaboration between philharmonie zuidnederland, Maastricht University and Hogeschool Zuyd (Research Centre for Arts, Autonomy and the Public Sphere & Conservatorium Maastricht).
In her PhD, Veerle researched how Dutch symphony orchestras experiment with the role of their audience in order to find new ways of making their practice socially and artistically relevant. Besides writing about this type of experiment, she also worked with fellow researchers and orchestra staff and musicians on setting up concert experiments and creating a teaching model with studies for the changing orchestral practice. Alongside her work as a researcher, Veerle teaches cultural theory, Science & Technology Studies and (artistic) research methods. She is also one of the makers of the podcast Kunstmatig about the borderline area between art and technology.
