At HKU, we try to reduce our energy consumption and thus contribute to a reduction in CO2 emissions. We believe that even the smallest efforts can eventually make a huge difference. Both our staff members and students join this action, thereby showing that sustainability is a hot topic at HKU.
Heleen Jumelet, chair of HKU’s Executive Board: The 'Warm Sweater Day’ might sound casual, and the photo is as well, but it actually concerns a very serious topic. The climate crisis is very much on my mind and concerns me every day. I’m not only thinking about the enormous climate change issue itself and its eventual consequences, but also on the direct consequences for the inequality in the world, which can already be felt and will only increase rapidly. As HKU, we stimulate all our staff members and students to contribute to climate solutions. For example, by preventing unnecessary waste.’
