Art of Health exhibition has opened

  • 07 april 2025

The Art of Health exhibition is open since Sunday 6 April. Five HKU alumni use their power of imagination to give a sneak peek of what a healthy future society could look like. Their works are on display in three glass containers, at three locations: Jaarbeursplein Utrecht, Utrecht Science Park and at the Eemplein in Amersfoort. The expo is part of the broader Dutch Health Week.

Future vision of healthy people

The alumni Coco van der Wiel, Mijs Both, Katharina Busl, Emmy van de Grift and Britt Vendel each respond in their own way by showing their future vision of healthy people, within their complex ecological and social systems. Their works reflect the efforts of scientists searching for health innovations.

Utrecht region joining forces

Together with the opening of Art of Health, the manifest of Utrecht, Heart of Health was signed by members of the Economic Board Utrecht, which is directed by Susanne Schilderman, councillor of the City of Utrecht. With this manifest, the Utrecht region underlines their commitment to a healthier and more sustainable society. It’s an assignment to gather the strengths of all health-related initiatives; to reinforce and expand the international position of the Utrecht region. One example of this is the annual Dutch Health Week in Jaarbeurs Utrecht: a large health event for both citizens and healthcare professionals.

The Art of Healthcare and Wellbeing

With the Art of Health exhibition, HKU is showing how the arts can provide a unique contribution to solving the challenges in the field of health. Artists and designers are particularly capable of criticising systems, get stalled processes back in motion and imagine alternative futures. They can suggest new ideas and modes of thinking, from a wholly different approach, unconstrained by ingained assumptions, and transcending all traditional disciplines.
