Anne-Maartje Lemereis studied Piano and Composition at HKU Utrechts Conservatorium and has been working as a teacher and mentor of Composition. In 2023 she was elected as the fifth (and so far, the youngest ever) ‘Composer of the Netherlands’

Deirdre Carasso, Chair of the Fentener van Vlissingen Culture foundation, says about the decision: ’The directors of the Fentener van Vlissingen Cultuurfonds admires the many talents of Anne-Maartje Lemereis: her strong composing skills, her piano play, the strength by which she realises what she wants to achieve, her courage and her uniting force, both in the professional music field and in the world of amateurs and children’s musical education. Anne-Maartje is making an important and inspiring contribution in the growth and flourishing of the Utrecht music scene.’’

Cecile Rongen, course leader at HKU Utrechts Conservatorium: "We are very proud to see that our alumnus and colleague is making a difference in so many layers of society – both as musician and teacher. She has the talent to make music accessible to everyone, regardless of their experience, and to seek the connection between professionals and beginners, between the notes and the imagination."

Heleen Jumelet, chair of HKU’s Executive Board, says about Lemereis: “HKU distinguishes itself through artistic quality and meaningfulness. The people of HKU make unique and personal works, and the artistic value is what provides them position in our society and the creative sector. We are very proud that Anne-Maartje Lemereis serves as a great example of this.”

Lemereis herself calls it a huge honour to have won the Prize: ‘’Lots of work, endless planning, many talks and Excel documents were put into winning this award. This makes it only more special that all this invisible work is now being seen and acknowledged. With the corresponding financial reward, I will dedicate part of it to ensure the continuation of the Children’s Composer of the Netherlands. I will also make a contribution to the upcoming anniversary party of my Lienderts Orchestra, and I am going to record my first album!’’
