The Rediscoverers of the Own Heart and the Shared Soul by Candlelight
The Rediscoverers of the Own Heart and the Collective Soul at Candlelight is a music and performance duo consisting of August de Leeuw and Diederick van Rijsewijk. Together they create sound sculptures that are not meant to be understood, but aim to take the listener on a disorienting journey where anti-perfection and the aesthetics of pretension are the driving forces. In collaboration with the Maakruimte and Nulpunt, they worked towards a performance titled "Raw Surrender" during the month of February.

The performance is about the colonization of the now. The now is possessed, cut up, besieged by evil time. Immersed in the everywhere and later, only the faintest essence remains; a murky and shaky ice floe to face the years. A musical and performative landscape to rediscover the broken moment.

For a month, the Rediscoverers worked intensively in the Maakruimte, part of the Havenloods. An investigation into how the sounds and words they had been immersing themselves in for years would be translated into a performance and how they could make that absurdity communicate to an audience.

Diederick van Rijsewijk graduated in 2021 from the Musician 3.0 course at the HKU and works from musical improvisation, performance, soundscaping, sensitivity and somatic dance.

August de Leeuw graduated from the Writing for Performance course at HKU in 2020 and uses his fascination for language, rhythm, meaning, symbolism and mysticism in the creation of the songs.
