Opening academic year 23/24 and HKU Awards 2023 ceremony

What can you expect? Of course, lots of impressive works and performances from students, along with a fascinating selection of guest speakers from HKU and elsewhere about the value that art and art education.

Programme in TivoliVredenburg

  • 2.00-7.00 pm: CONNECT at the K.F. Hein Foyer: an exhibition featuring the graduation work of nominees for the HKU Awards 2023;
  • 4.30-6.00 pm: opening of the academic year and presentation of the HKU Awards 2023 in hall Hertz;
  • 6.00-7.00 pm: drinks at Park 6.

Opening academic year 23/24

  • Students from the Music in Education programme give a special opening performance as a choir
  • Host Eveline van Rijswijk talks to Heleen Jumelet en Edwin Jacobs (CvB) about the plans and ambition of HKU this academic year;
  • Alumni Kika Sprangers (saxophone), Remy van Kesteren (harp) and Fenne Scholte (vocals) will give a unique, one-off performance.
  • Eveline van Rijswijk leads a table talk with associate lecturer Veerle Spronck, Mart Veldhuis (alumnus) and Bas van Abel (alumnus, founder Phairphone and meber of the Supervisory Board), about the value of art and art education; about quality, craftsmanship and craftsmanship and the meaning of art for today's great social challenges.
  • House band is LOE., the collective around singer-songwriter Laura de Bruijn, who completed her BA of Music at HKU Utrechts Conservatorium last June.

HKU Awards 2023

Following the opening of the academic year is the presentation of the HKU Awards 2023 for the most outstanding graduation work of last academic year. All nominated works can be seen in the K.F. Hein Foyer in TivoliVredenburg. The nominated students will also be present here; be sure to drop by for a chat. Alderman Eva Oosters awards the HKU Prize Gemeente Utrecht for student work with special social impact.
