Throughout the summer of 2023, the estate around Amelisweerd is home to a lane of sculptures created by Fine Art students of HKU Academy of the Arts. For the second year in a row, the materials found in the area serve as the building blocks for the creations in this outdoor exhibition.
In Growing Structures, students investigate the ways in which we humans force nature to our own will, expressing this in their constructions and sculptures. This concept is the main theme of the outdoor exhibition, on display all summer, along the lane that leads up to the entrance of the mansion. On 1 October 2023, the works are dismantled and the original materials are given back to the forest.
The participating students of HKU Fine Art are: Helen Van Leeuwen, Sagar Sarkar Rayn, Linne Guldemond, Hazel Van Berkel, Pargol Tavakoli Shirazi, Lina de Koning, Dieuwke Jollema Gorter, Roos Gerritsene, Nynke Sansom en alumni Roza Robein en Maya Berkhof. Curators are: Erwin Slegers and Anno Dijkstra.
The foundation of Stichting Landhuis Oud Amelisweerd offers a platform to artists and cultural institutions from Utrecht. HKU University of the Arts is one of their trusted exhibiting partners. In 2021, HKU Fashion Design presented their graduation show Class of 2021 in the mansion. Growing Structures is the second edition of their outdoor exhibition.
