AG

AG provides space for new art and media, and serves as HU’s exhibition room at the heart of Utrecht since 1996. With about nine presentations per year, it shows ‘the very best’ of what HKU has to offer.

The AG programme offers a current glimpse of the upcoming HKU talents from a broad range of arts disciplines: graphic design, photography, media technology, fine art, fashion, product design, and more.

An important aspect of AG’s annual programme consists of presentations by HKU students. These exhibitions are mostly preceded by an intensive educational process: in cooperation with each other, coaching teachers, and exhibition coordinators, students gain experience in exhibiting their works in a public presentation form. Additionally, AG regularly offers a stage to young professional creators, mostly HKU alumni, who stand out within their own professional field. Other exhibitions are formed in cooperation with our cultural partners in Utrecht, such as Fotodok, Impakt, Kunstliefde and the Netherlands Film Festival.

AG’s expo coordinator, Peter van Dijk, adds: ‘In education, it is often about the process, with the end result being of secondary importance. But at AG, it is actually about how you present your work, putting that end result at the forefront. Furthermore, students get the chance at AG to investigate their relation to a (broader) public audience, so that they learn to take a more distanced look at their own work.’
