Citrus Blossom "Yiayia" album release

Citrus Blossom, Fay Arapatsani, Rebetiko against the Machine

This evening, the Utrecht-based crossover company CITRUS BLOSSOM presents their new album.
This originally Greek quintet mixes jazz, rock & traditional Eastern music into a swinging whole with plenty of room for improvisation and a social message. The Eastern vocal lines are accompanied by a rock sound supplemented with accents of violin and saxophone. East most West. Melancholy and frenzy hand in hand.
Also on the bill is Rebetiko Against The Machine, a traditional acoustic company of young people who keep the tradition of Greek Rebetiko music alive. Rebetiko is a traditional Greek form of folk from the 1930s. Hypnotic and swinging at the same time.

The line-up is complemented by a performance by the drummer/composer Fray Arapatsani, who also originally has roots in Greece. Singing from behind her drum kit, she explores the boundaries of pop music and contemporary human relationships. She also gathered a band around her, with whom she worked on her first EP, entitled Will I go under, a dark work in which pop and electronics musically translate her inner turmoil. Let yourself be carried away in the raw reality of Fay Arapatsani.

Album presentation of the Utrecht based Citrus Blossom,. Initially established in Greece, the band is now made up of eclectic international musicians from Greece, Cyprus, the US, France and the Netherlands. From Rock, Jazz, Eastern traditional and Pop, this variety of musical influences contributed to compose a unique timbre by the dialogue between saxophone and violin which are coloring the Eastern traditional voice lines.
